Wishful Thinking in Hyde Park, 1970

This is the website of WISHFUL THINKING, comprising the 1969 line-up that recorded the HIROSHIMA album which was first released in the UK on the B&C label in 1971. Around this time, the band also released a couple of singles, CLEAR WHITE LIGHT and LU LA LE LU all produced by Lou Reizner. Initially the album made little impact however, in 1978, the album was re-released by Global Records and sold well in excess of 1,000,000 copies in Germany, where it remained in the charts for 41 weeks.

In 1979, Global Music released another album called WISHFUL THINKING. This album contained some new material by John, Kevin and Tony, one of which was called AMERICA which was also a very big seller in Germany, making the charts in many regions.

Prior to 1969, WISHFUL THINKING, were recording with ex-Shadows drummer and record producer TONY MEEHAN. Between 1965 and 1969 the group released 9 singles and a live album. There were some changes in personnel and some successes, most notably STEP BY STEP, COUNT TO TEN, CHERRY CHERRY, IT’S SO EASY and PEANUTS, the latter remaining in the Danish charts for 3 months and also reaching No8 in Japan.

In 1990, they released extended play versions of HIROSHIMA and AMERICA. More recently, following a few reunion gigs and a German TV show in 2005, the group got back together in France for a couple of weeks with two main aims in mind: to trawl through their archive of previously unreleased recordings, (some pre-dating Hiroshima); and to write and record new material which they are now producing at John’s Lakeside Studios. Many of the tracks are already mastered and will shortly be available via this website in 2009.

Thank you for visiting the Wishful Thinking website where Kevin, Tony and John invite you to explore and enjoy.
